NEW SERIES: The first few days of 2013 have kicked off with sunshine and a little warmth but that has quickly turned back into dull days. Sean is in the greenhouse keeping warm as he starts the first sowings of vegetables and flowers.

i mean once the seeds have sprouted and i transplant them to there main container. do they need deep soil??
I do them in a 6inch pot but you can also put them in a seed tray.
How deep of a pot can leeks grow in???
Not sure what they were. This year I’ll also be growing Flower Sprouts – they taste wonderful! They are a cross between Brussels and Kale!
Which Brussels do you use?
I live in Penticton, British Columbia – It is in the Okanagan Valley, and is one of the warmest areas of Canada – we are just north of Canada’s desert. Wine Country – but still gets plenty cold in the winter.

btw, if you have any video of snow this weekend, email it to: hypvds3j76o0@m.youtube.com I may use it in the next episode!
It’s a really good programme. My plan is on the website thehortchannel(dot)com then in the drop down (top left) of Sean’s Allotment Garden its in there. Can’t put urls here apparently. I’ll add it to the description above as well.
Hi Sean
You mentioned growveg.com for planning your allotment. Based upon your recommendation I have started using it and I am very impressed. Have you published a plan of your allotment anywhere?
Sam
haha. I suffer from a condition known as M.E. and however much I’d like to dig, digging doesn’t like me.
great video Sean but raised beds? they lazy mans way! lol also great tips. thanks
Part 2 just uploading.
I would cover your plot with heavy black plastic and only work around 10 feet a year. Am loving your polytunnel and all the wildlife it attracts. We should do a collab video at some point in the summer.
Very nicely put together video Sean. Some really good tips there about not trying to run before you can walk that I should be taking notice of!
)
Looking forward to part 2
Our last frost day is around the same time. What part of Canada are you? I lived in Toronto once for a few months. Would love to return someday and explore the mountains of Canada.
I am in Canada, too much snow to be working in the garden yet, so just planning and dreaming still….Our last frost day is May 15th or thereabouts so I need to live vicariously through youtube for a couple more months.
No pressure!
It’s the best way, slow and often. I’m in Crystal Palace, South-East. I may just pop over and film on your allotment in the summer. You have been warned! haha
Sean, this is ace. I loved your introduction- planning, not tiring yourself and growing stuff to share. True allotment mentality- love it. Where is your plot? I’m in Chiswick on Duke’s Meadow
Thanks Seamus. Will be interesting if we get the harsh weather they are promising, you’ll just be watching me drinking tea in the shed!
It’s you Susan. Make sure the volume is turned on and the speakers are plugged in.
brilliant video.. loved it, and looking forward to the others ..
No sound? Or is it me?
Yes I am in Australia.
The closest fire to us is about 40 kms away at the moment so not too close. We do however have bush all around us so a bushfire here is a real possibility.
We are prepared but hopefully no bushfires start here.
Thanks, here’s to nice weather.
