A traditional ‘winter’ variety for sowing in late June and July to harvest and store for winter use in salads.
Sow seeds June to July. Sow seeds thinly, 13mm (½in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart in well drained , fertile soil , which has been raked to a fine tilth.
Water ground regularly, especially in dry periods. Thin out seedlings to allow 5-7cm (2-3in) between plants.
Keep cool and moist to help prevent running to seed.
